strAv3L: Santarém package

Santarém
Santarém is a beautiful city to the north of Lisbon, perched on top of a rocky mound where, from the gardens of the Porta do Sol, there’s a splendid view over the River Tagus and the marshlands.
The Porta do Sol (Gate of the Sun) is one of the two remaining gates of the defensive walls of this city. Santarém was very important during the Middle Ages, when it acquired most of its rich artistic and cultural heritage. Start your visit from this gate so that you can get to know the city as it truly is by taking thematic tours of its monuments.

Begin with the Romanic-Gothic S. João de Alporão Church, which is also home to the Museu Arqueológico de Santarém (Santarém Archaeological Museum), and then head off to some of the city’s Gothic treasures, such as the Graça Church, the Santa Clara Church and the Santa Maria de Marvila Church.
The Santuário do Santíssimo Milagre (Sanctuary of the Holy Miracle) and the Núcleo Museológico do Tempo (Time Museum), located in the Torre das Cabaças (Tower of the Gourds), are also worth a visit.

And don’t miss Santarém’s Festival de Gastronomia (Culinary Festival), the country’s main culinary exhibition that takes place in the second half of October, and its Feira Nacional de Agricultura (National Agriculture Fair), which takes place in the first week of June.

strAv3L: Coimbra package

Coimbra / Mealhada
On the banks of the River Mondego, Coimbra was once capital of an emerging Portuguese kingdom. An ancient centre of learning, poetry and sculpture, Coimbra was also the setting for the love affair of Pedro and Inês.
In place of the hilltop palace of the first Portuguese monarchs, you’ll now find the oldest university in Portugal and Europe.

Before the first royals, the Roman’s colonised the area, and their art is found in the Monastery of Santa Cruz, where St. Anthony lived and the first King of Portugal, Afonso Henriques died. Roman art is also found in the Old Cathedral, where students sing Coimbra-style fado on the steps. In Santa Clara-a-Velha, which dates back to Roman times as well, the beautiful Inês de Castro lived with the children she had with Prince Pedro. It was here she was murdered on the orders of King Afonso IV, giving rise to the most tragic and immortal love story written in Portuguese.
The Renaissance and the final transfer of the university to Coimbra in 1537 breathed new artistic freedom into the city. This is now seen in the beautiful Manueline doorway of the University Chapel and the magnificent ancient door in the walls of the Old Cathedral.

The Baroque style also left its mark on the sumptuous University Library, “the most beautiful and richly decorated library that I ever saw” according to a 19th Century diplomat. On its gilded shelves are 250,000 books.

From the top of its 178 steps, the old university clock tower still chimes out the hours too. Visit Coimbra for an unforgettable holiday.

strAv3L: Setúbal/Tróia package

(…)NATURE RIGHT AT HAND

(…)Further south, the Sado Estuary has another important Nature Reserve. This vast estuary communicates with the Atlantic Ocean. The notably diverse landscape of the 25,000 hectare Reserve includes dunes with rare vegetation cover, sandbanks, vast marshes, reed beds and thickets. But the main attraction of the reserve is the dozens of dolphins that live in the estuary and delight both adults and children, unique in Portugal and very easily observed. Other endangered species in the zone include the Barbastelle bat and the otter. We recommend taking one of the mini-cruises that depart from the city of Setúbal, during which you can admire the dolphins, the estuary and the stunning coastline of the Parque Natural da Arrábida.

ONE STEP FROM PARADISE

Arrábida is a spectacular landscape, in which human activity has been carefully integrated into the beautiful backdrop of nature. The Hills, the Natural Park, the beaches and the historical buildings show how the best of nature can lead to best of Mankind, if people are able to integrate natural elements into their daily leisure life, without ever failing to preserve and protect them.  The Parque Natural da Arrábida extends from the Morro de Palmela to Cabo Espichel, and includes three full botanical and landscape reserves: Reserva do Solitário, Reserva Integral da Mata Coberta and Reserva dos Vidais. It also has a zoological reserve on the islet Ilhéu da Pedra da Anixa, which includes the Parque Marinho da Arrábida, with fully protected species.  In the Serra da Arrábida, we can also find several beaches, such as Galapos and Creiro. But the main beach is Portinho da Arrábida, between the highest part of the Hills and the sea. This is a large beach of hot, white sand and is an absolute delight for beach lovers. In its waters, is the Pedra da Anixa, a small rocky islet that is very popular among divers.  For other pleasures, to be enjoyed at the table, visit one of the restaurants on the beach and try the popular "caldeirada" (fish stew) or some exceptional shellfish. You will also find interesting examples of significant human presence in Arrábida. Near the small Creiro bay are some interesting Roman ruins.  In the heart of the Natural Park, on a secluded hillside, is the Convento da Arrábida, originally founded by Arrabidino Franciscan friars who built cells, a church and other outbuildings in 1542. It is a fascinating collection of buildings that resembles a small village. Another important site is the 17th century Forte da Arrábida, the mission of which was to defend the coast. Today, it houses the Museu Oceanográfico do Parque Natural da Arrábida.  In Arrábida, walking is always the best choice. There is no other place like that.

strAv3L: Sintra package

Sintra
Pure dazzlement
Sintra is an inexhaustible attraction.
The perfect symbiosis between nature and its built heritage led to its classification by UNESCO as World Heritage, at the category of Cultural Landscape, in 1995. The town has been adored over the years by artists and writers from all over the world and the passion for the town reached its peak in the 19th century, in the heart of the romantic era.

Poets such as Lord Byron, who called it a "a Garden of the Earthly Paradise", or Portuguese writers such as Eça de Queiroz, who described it in so many passages in his books, helped create an aura of the town, which is theirs by right.
What makes Sintra such an exceptional place?
It is exuberant in all senses of the word. Essentially, it is the perfect fusion between natural richness and the magnificence of its monuments, combined in an extreme beauty. Let us take, for example, the vast area classified by UNESCO. Starting in the Historic Town Centre, stands the Paço Real, one of the many monumental buildings of the region. To walk through the centre of the town is to travel through a magical world, full of extremely rich apparently insignificant details. All this surrounded and watched over by the grandeur of the Serra de Sintra, with its luxurious, which offers endless different walks. Sintra has unique examples of parks and gardens and has influenced many European landscapes. Highlights are the Parque da Pena and the Jardins de Monserrate. High in the Serra, on one of its steep peaks, we can find the Palácio da Pena, the most complete and notable example of Portuguese Romantic architecture, recently restored and painted in the original colours and standing out among the surrounding greenery. Built on the site of the ruins of the Mosteiro Jerónimo de Nossa Senhora da Pena, the palace dates back to 1839. The monuments that are part of the area classified by UNESCO are numerous and all deserve to be visited. But it is a walk through the town and up into the Serra that shows its unique charm and magic atmosphere created by typical mist.
Take a quiet walk on foot or a ride on a picturesque coach. (…)

The historical heritage, particularly the delicious and picturesque town of Cascais, is one of the great interests of the area, with important architectural and artistic works. strAv3L: Lisbon package

Lisbon city
The historical neighborhoods of central Lisbon are perfect for visitors to the Portuguese capital to experience for themselves. Their culture, the history, the architecture and the people are fundamental aspects of Lisbon’s identity, and those who explore them will discover their own personal map. There are so many possibilities, don't let them get away.

The Bairro Alto is one of the most characterful and attractive neighborhoods in the city. The Bairro Alto boasts boutiques and bars and is a place where people meet in an eclectic and multicultural atmosphere. To discover its streets, lanes and alleys, it is essential to explore it. Traditional restaurants nestle alongside cosy bookshops; tea rooms serving signature cakes vie for attention with funky design shops and the boutiques of the most respected Portuguese fashion designers.
Bairro Alto is a unique experience within Lisbon packed with secrets ripe for discovery.

From Bairro Alto, stroll down to the Chiado, the sophisticated hub for the city’s young people, artists and intellectuals The Chiado is an area of iconic cafés including “A Brasileira”, art schools, theatres and of living history. The intrinsic beauty of the Chiado, and it’s people – going about their daily lives -, makes the area what it is.

(…)The Baixa is the city's traditional shopping district where visitors can stroll around the streets and find dozens of shops offering a wide range of temptations.
Rua Augusta is the main artery of the Baixa Pombalina leading north from Terreiro do Paço (known as Black Horse Square by the English), to the beautiful Praça do Rossio (Praça Dom Pedro IV).

Just north of Rossio, discover Avenida da Liberdade, which in the 19th century, was the favourite promenade for the Lisbon élite. Today, the Avenida is home to exclusive international boutiques to tempt and inspire. (…)

strAv3L: Vinho Verde (Young Wine)

Vinho Verde or Young Wine is a Portuguese wine from the northern region of Minho. It owes its name because it is bottled and consumed within short time in opposition to mature wine.
There are several types of it but the most common and appreciated is the young white wine.
There are many good brands and producers and a big range of prices with very good quality. We could mention Alvarinho, Muralhas de Monção or even a most "commercial" brand like Gazela.

Today we suggest Tormes, which has an excellent relation price/quality and comes from the vineyards and cellars that once bellonged to the Portuguese writer Eça de Queirós and that now are managed by the Foundation Eça de Queirós. It's made from Avesso and Arinto grapes, with a taste of pears, apples and cantaloupe. Its flavour is both dry and refreshing.

strAv3L: Intensive Language Learning Program of Portuguese for Foreigners

Study – Intensive Language Learning Program of Portuguese for Foreigners

strAveL gives you the possibility to spend three days with a Portuguese tutor, who will also be your host and who will be with you throughout your stay. Thus, you will be in permanent contact with the Portuguese language in a real learning context. In a moment you are having a theoretical lesson on going to a restaurant, in the next moment you will have the opportunity to practice what you were taught, having a nice meal in a local restaurant and enjoying the Portuguese delicious cuisine. The idea is to offer you an informal learning environment, being the contents focused on conversation and practical matters and where the student can immediately (self)evaluate his/her evolution and the program’s result. Furthermore, the contents are also agreed between the student and the tutor, in order to meet the client’s needs.

Wine: one of Portugal biggest asset

Portugal is known for its great wines. And, undoubtedly, we do have great wines. Good for every dish, every moment, every season of the day. Whether a red from Alentejo, a rosé from Ribatejo, white from Douro or green from Minho.
In strAv3L we like to share our best wines with our guests.
Our host was born and raised in Ribatejo, so she has a special taste for Ribatejo wines.
Today, she suggests the Rosé Conde de Vimioso. It's great for summer days and it has a great price/quality relation. Made from Touriga Nacional and Syrah, it has a dense flavour of berries, cherries and strawberries.
Cheers!

Troia: golden beaches and dolphins

On a beautiful sunny sunday like this, we'd suggest a day spend at Troia.
Troia is a peninsula located in the municipality of Grandola, bathed by Sado and very close to Setubal.
Its natural beauty is due to its long beaches facing the Atlantic, with 17km of golden sands bathed by blue waters.
You can drive there by car or make a shortcut by catching the ferryboat from Setubal (15minutes journey). If you choose the latter, you might be lucky to sight the Sado dolphins.

Here, the ex-libris of the region are the «tortas de Azeitão» (Azeitão rolls), egg-based and with a slight taste of lemon and cinnamon.

Alcochete is located in the region of Setubal, well known for the wonderful Moscatel (Muscat wine).
20minutes away from us, you will find José Maria da Fonseca cellars and vineyards, the oldest Portuguese producer of table wines.

ART/travel - Touristic/Cultural Package

Portugal has many beautiful places to visit and is rich in its gastronomical and musical culture as well as in heritage. From fado houses, to museums, to its lovely beaches or enchanting mountains, there is much to see. A walk through Lisbon hills, a short cruise to Troia and the chance to watch the Sado dolphins, the sight of the black capes of the university students from Coimbra, getting by Santarém the so-called Portuguese gothic capital… the hardest thing is to choose your package.

Furthermore, the contents are also agreed between the student and the tutor, in order to meet the client’s needs.

strAveL, the concept

strAveL, the concept
Thinking about learning Portuguese? Planning to visit Portugal? What if you could combine a weekend get away with an intensive language learning program, accommodation and a touristic and cultural package?
Those are the main ideas behind the concept of strAveL!

strAveL offers accommodation in a private residence, where you are welcome to feel at home but with the benefits

of a hotel. At the same time you are discovering a Portuguese city or region, you are offered the possibility of learning the Portuguese language in a real context: having a meal at a restaurant, asking for a coffee at a Portuguese café terrace, shopping, going to the theatre or simply having a conversation with your host, the Portuguese tutor, Angie Lázaro, who will also be your touristic and cultural promoter.

strAveL also gives you the possibility to attend a workshop, according to your desire: cake design, costume jewellery, make-up, regional Portuguese pastry, regional Portuguese cuisine, etc.

strAveL is characterized not only by the concept of «all-in-one» but also for presenting you a program proposal according to your profile and aims.
